Say ‘NO’ to Privatizing Garbage Collection East of Yonge Street

The City of Toronto is considering the privatization of garbage collection east of Yonge Street, which is currently provided by City of Toronto employees. Mayor John Tory has expressed support for privatization, claiming that it will save the City money, however, a recent City Staff report concluded that:

“…the best value and lowest risk to the City of Toronto at this time is to continue with the current model.”*

Privatizing waste collection:

  • Will not save the City money

  • Could increase operational and financial risk to the City

  • Will result in laying off 500 hard-working City employees who provide a service that residents rely on

Please sign this petition to support City employees and the protection of decent jobs and liveable wages, and to tell City Council that you do not support the privatization of waste collection east of Yonge Street.
